The CW 2017 Fall TV Trailers: Valor Life Sentence Dynasty

The CW is bringing up the rear as far as the 2017 network upfronts are concerned. The younger-skewing network is following the likes of ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC, which have all presented their new wares to advertisers, showing off what new comedies and dramas are coming to broadcast television. This year, the networks have presented a slew of new shows, with ABC and CBS offering a surprising amount of never-before-seen programming to their lineups. As usual, The CW is doing things a little differently, with only four new shows coming to the network this year – two in the fall with Valor and Dynasty , and two as midseason premieres in Black Lightning and Life Senten


With the film recently arriving on DVD, I had the chance to talk to co-director Scott Waugh and star Lieutenant Commander Rorke Denver about the release, the critical reaction to the film, and the rumors that Waugh would be directing the upcoming video game adaptation, **Need for Speed


They also spoke out about the criticism that the movie received as a recruiting tool for the military. Denver said that he " wouldn’t really put a lot of stock in " such critiques, adding that if young men and women see the movie and decide to sign up to be members of the military, " the country, I think, would be better for it ." Waugh was more direct in his thoughts, adding that, " if you think sacrifice is a recruitment video, then obviously [you] completely misconceive about what that word mean

In our conversation, he confirmed that he will be directing the adaptation and talked about his excitement working with film legend Steven Spielb


CW president Mike Pedowitz has been working to get a military drama on the network for several years now, and the choice to make Valor , a drama about U.S. Army helicopter pilots who find themselves embroiled in a conspiracy following a mission that went completely awry, the network's first foray into the subgenre an interesting one. For one thing, Valor is late to the party; NBC already launched The Brave and CBS SEAL Team , meaning The CW is entering into a marketplace that may already be saturated with military dramas. And Valor is airing the same night as The Brave , which even with the lead-in of Supergirl might not be a match for NBC's The Voice in terms of bringing in viewers. There's a good chance those who are looking forward to seeing the Girl of Steel return for season 3 will stick around for the premiere of Valor , after all, it also features a strong female lead with Christina Ochoa, who was most recently seen in SYFY's one-and-done grindhouse series Blood Drive . But it seems questionable whether or not that audience will stick around after the somewhat disappointing and muddled pilot epis


The only difference? This time, the characters putting their lives on the line will be members of a law enforcement unit, as opposed to people who are part of the U.S. Navy's special operations force. That could be a deal-breaker, for some of the moviegoers who enjoyed Act of Valor primarily because it shone the spotlight on the SEALs lifestyle - and believe that a proper sequel ought to do the s


McCoy and Waugh will produce the new Act of Valor movie installment, but the screenwriting and directing responsibilities are going to be handled by Scott Wiper instead.
